Clothing Care

Our garments are designed to be lived in, but thoughtful care will extend their life and reduce unnecessary wear.

Before Washing

  • Read the care label attached to your garment before laundering.

  • Empty all pockets and fasten buttons, snaps, and zippers.

  • Turn garments inside out to protect printed graphics, embroidery, and fabric surfaces.

  • Wash similar colors together to prevent color transfer.

Washing

For most garments, we recommend:

  • Machine wash cold (30°C / 86°F or lower).

  • Use a gentle or delicate cycle.

  • Use a mild, color-safe detergent.

  • Avoid bleach or detergents containing chlorine.

  • Do not use fabric softeners on performance fabrics or printed garments, as they can shorten the life of the print.

Hand washing is always the gentlest option for delicate fabrics or limited-edition apparel.

Drying

Air drying is strongly recommended whenever possible.

If using a dryer:

  • Use the lowest heat setting.

  • Remove garments promptly once dry.

  • Avoid overdrying, which can cause shrinkage and unnecessary wear.

Excessive heat is one of the leading causes of fading, cracking prints, and fabric damage.

Ironing

If ironing is necessary:

  • Turn the garment inside out.

  • Use a low to medium heat setting.

  • Never iron directly over printed graphics, embroidery, patches, or decorative elements.

  • A pressing cloth may be used for additional protection.

Storage

Store clothing in a cool, dry place away from prolonged direct sunlight.

For long-term storage:

  • Wash garments first.

  • Fold heavy knits rather than hanging them.

  • Use padded or wooden hangers for structured garments.

  • Avoid storing clothing in damp areas.

Art Print Care

Our art prints are created to last, but paper is naturally sensitive to moisture, light, and improper handling.

Handling

Always handle prints with clean, dry hands.

Whenever possible:

  • Hold prints by the edges.

  • Avoid touching the printed surface.

  • Keep prints flat until ready to frame.

Display

Avoid hanging prints in:

  • Direct sunlight

  • Bathrooms

  • Kitchens

  • Laundry rooms

  • Areas with excessive humidity

  • Locations with rapidly changing temperatures

Even indirect sunlight over many years can gradually fade pigments.

Cleaning

Do not use household cleaners or sprays on artwork.

If dust accumulates on the frame:

  • Dust gently with a soft microfiber cloth.

  • Avoid allowing moisture to contact the artwork.

Never wipe the surface of an unframed print.

Storage

If storing unframed prints:

  • Keep them flat inside archival sleeves or portfolios.

  • Store in a cool, dry environment.

  • Avoid basements, attics, garages, or areas with fluctuating humidity.

  • Do not roll prints unless they were originally shipped rolled and are intended for that method of storage.

Original Artwork Care

Original artwork deserves careful handling to preserve its beauty and longevity.

Framing

Framing is the best way to protect your artwork.

We recommend:

  • Acid-free mat board.

  • Acid-free backing materials.

  • UV-protective glass or acrylic.

  • Professional framing whenever possible.

Archival framing materials help prevent yellowing and deterioration over time.

Handling

Whenever possible:

  • Handle artwork by the frame or edges.

  • Wash and dry hands before touching artwork.

  • Avoid touching painted or printed surfaces.

  • Lift artwork with both hands to prevent stress on the frame or canvas.

Display

Choose a location that is:

  • Away from direct sunlight

  • Away from fireplaces or heating vents

  • Away from air conditioning vents

  • Free from excessive humidity

  • Protected from sudden temperature changes

Stable indoor environments help preserve both the artwork and its framing materials.

Framing

If your artwork arrives unframed, consider using professional archival framing.

Recommended materials include:

  • Acid-free matting

  • Archival mounting materials

  • UV-filtering glass or acrylic

  • Conservation-quality backing

These materials significantly reduce the effects of aging and environmental exposure.

Cleaning

For framed artwork:

  • Dust the frame with a soft, dry microfiber cloth.

  • Clean glass only by spraying cleaner onto the cloth—not directly onto the glass—to prevent liquid from seeping inside the frame.

For unframed artwork:

  • Do not use water, solvents, or cleaning products.

  • Avoid attempting to remove marks or stains.

  • If professional conservation is needed, consult a qualified art conservator.

Storage

If artwork must be stored:

  • Keep it upright whenever possible.

  • Store in a climate-controlled environment.

  • Protect corners with corner guards.

  • Wrap artwork in acid-free paper or archival materials.

  • Avoid plastic wrap directly against painted surfaces.

  • Never stack heavy objects on top of artwork.

Environmental Conditions

Both clothing and artwork last longest when stored in stable environments.

Ideal conditions include:

  • Moderate temperatures

  • Low to moderate humidity

  • Good airflow

  • Protection from prolonged UV exposure

Excessive moisture can encourage mold and mildew, while excessive heat and sunlight may cause fading, warping, shrinkage, or cracking over time.

Natural Characteristics

Many Kaskara Collective products feature handcrafted techniques, natural fibers, or original artwork. Slight variations in color, texture, brushwork, print placement, or finish are part of the character of each piece and should not be considered defects.
